Awards and Achievements

Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards

Pinehurst Safeway

The Pinehurst Safeway is the first Safeway store in Washington State to feature a parking area entirely designed with pervious concrete, covering over 68,000 square feet. The store has earned LEED Silver Certification for its sustainable design and construction practices. The parking area includes colored red pervious concrete in pedestrian zones, showcasing the decorative and functional capabilities of pervious concrete in modern retail design.

Regional Athletic Center

The Regional Athletic Center project, a premier 100-acre sports venue, utilized pervious concrete to address stormwater management challenges, eliminating the need for retention ponds while enhancing land use efficiency. The durable, sustainable surface withstands heavy foot traffic and extreme weather, providing long-lasting performance and reducing environmental impact by recharging groundwater and mitigating stormwater runoff. The use of pervious concrete reflects a commitment to innovative, eco-friendly design, ensuring a high-quality, attractive finish and a lifecycle of up to 50 years

South Division Street
Promenade

The Downtown Promenade project in Auburn, WA, features a blend of decorative pervious concrete, standard concrete, and colored concrete to promote stormwater infiltration and reduce environmental impact. The innovative design includes pervious concrete bands, colorful acid-stained intersections, and decorative paver walkways, all contributing to a visually appealing and sustainable space. The combination of porous and light-colored pavement helps mitigate the "heat island" effect, while providing durability and comfort in high-traffic areas.

Woods at Golden Given

Habitat for Humanity’s 30-cottage development in south Pierce County, Tacoma, WA, uses pervious concrete to minimize environmental impact and is the first in the area to utilize Title 18E.65 incentives for affordable housing. The project features a central green space, a common house, sports courts, and a community garden, all while preserving wetland areas. With 50,000 square feet of pervious pavement, the development reduces stormwater runoff and eliminates the need for traditional stormwater systems.

Fort Lewis North Athletic Complex

The new Athletic Complex features four turf baseball fields, two full-size basketball courts, and two turf soccer fields, all equipped with lighting for nighttime use. To address the challenge of stormwater management, pervious concrete was used, eliminating the need for retention ponds while helping to capture and recharge groundwater, reduce runoff, and meet EPA stormwater regulations. The complex includes 62,000 square feet of pervious concrete, 74,000 square feet of broom finish concrete, and 4,000 square feet of colored stamped concrete, offering a sustainable and environmentally compatible solution

These Excellence in Concrete Awards were won by Concrete Man, which operated from 2003 to 2017. In 2017, Concrete Man merged with Global Contractors. Global Contractors now proudly continues the legacy of excellence in concrete craftsmanship.
